A modern classic take on redesigning the infamous white plastic chair. The brief was to take on three charcteristics from an existing modern classic furniture to then redesigned the plastic chair around those characteristics. The Carlton Shelf, designed by the Memphis group in 1981, is chosen as the modern furniture classic inspiration. The memphis movement distinguished itself from the characterless design style of the 70s. It provokes the monotonous furniture with its bizarre visuals. We take this characteristic to make a radical shift onto the infamous white plastic chair. By changing the chair’s modest nature into something more eccentric, we made the chair to rebel against the customary perception of itself.
